ABSTRACT
Interlocking molecules composed of carbon nanohoops are still rarely reported. The above synthetic strategies have some limitations and the development of different synthetic strategies are still essential. In addition, many aspects of these interlocking molecules other than their optoelectronic properties have not been explored yet. The optical properties of interlocking molecules are related to the nature of the parent nanohoops. The introduction of functionalized units to modulate the properties of interlocking molecules is one of the challenges. These interlocking systems are relatively simple in terms of topological variations. There are numerous theoretically proposed nanocarbon topologies unexplored. As Itami's group expressed philosophy: "The world of molecular nanocarbon science is only limited by our imagination and creativity, and we have a bright future ahead of us!"
