ABSTRACT

Precise regulation of activation sites is critical for high-efficiency CO2 conversion catalysis. In this study, a series of icosahedral gold nanoclusters were synthesized, and the synergistic effects of metal core size, structural defects and Ag-doping on catalytic activity were systematically investigated in the cyclization reaction of CO2 with propargylamine. Combined defect engineering and Ag-doping modulate Au valence states and generate Au(III) components, which are rarely present in gold nanoclusters but crucial for CO2 activation. The optimized Au15Ag6 exhibits high catalytic efficiency with over 99% yield, broad substrate scope and scalable applications. This work provides a metal core engineering approach for designing high-efficiency CO2 conversion nanocluster catalysts at the atomic level.
